What Phoenix sun does to a pool deck
A pool deck fails in a specific order out here, and most Queen Creek and Valley homeowners can feel it before they can name it. First comes hairline crazing, a web of fine cracks across the surface as UV and pool chemistry work on the binder from both sides at once. Next is chalking, where the top layer starts to give up and you can wipe a pale dust off the surface with your hand. After that comes delamination, and this is the one people notice with their feet: a patch that sounds hollow when you walk on it, because the coating has let go of the slab underneath.
There is a difference between a deck that has weathered and a deck where the concrete itself is moving, and it matters which one you have. A patch that dries a different color than the surrounding deck, or a spot that grinds grit into the soles of your feet no matter how many times you sweep it, is the coating telling you it is done, not the slab. We look at that difference on every estimate in Queen Creek and across the Valley, because resurfacing over an active crack just telegraphs the same failure back through in a season or two.

How we resurface one
The pool and the planting around it get covered and protected before anything else happens. Then we clean and profile the existing surface so the new coating has something real to grip, and deal with any cracking before we spray rather than after, since a crack that is only cosmetic gets treated differently than one where the slab is actually moving. The coating goes on to an even thickness across the whole deck, then gets textured for grip while it is still workable, and the control joints get cut back in at the end so the slab keeps moving where it is meant to instead of cracking somewhere new.
Color is chosen before the crew ever shows up, not matched afterward once the old surface is already off. That is deliberate: it avoids the situation where a homeowner is picking a shade against a half-stripped deck under Arizona glare, which is the worst possible light to judge a color in. A standard residential pool surround is usually one day of work from start to finish, and our own crew does every part of it, no subcontractors, which is also the crew you would call if anything about the job needed a second look later.

What happens after we leave
The coating needs cure time before it takes real traffic, so we tell you the honest window rather than letting you find out by walking on it too soon. Once that window has passed, run the pool filter and check the water chemistry before the first swim, since dust and overspray during the work can shift both even under a cover. After that, the deck is yours to enjoy for the reason you had it done: it runs noticeably cooler underfoot than bare Phoenix concrete in July, which is the whole point of a cool deck coating.
The most common way people shorten the life of a fresh cool deck is cleaning it too aggressively. Acid washing and pressure washing at close range both take the texture off a coated surface faster than they take a stain off it, so a mild cleaner and a stiff brush handle almost everything that marks a deck day to day. If a section starts to feel rough, thin, or hollow underfoot again, that is the deck telling you it needs another look, the same way it told you the first time, and it is worth calling before it gets worse rather than after.
