The toughest duty a coating takes
A driveway asks more of a decorative coating than any other surface on a property, and we say that plainly at the estimate rather than after the fact. A pool deck sees bare feet and pool chemistry. A driveway sees the point load of tires parking and rolling off the same few square feet day after day, the turning shear of a wheel cutting into the surface as a car backs out, and oil, fuel and transmission fluid finding their way onto the concrete no matter how careful a household is. Add in Phoenix heat cycling across the biggest uninterrupted slab most homes have, expanding and contracting harder than a shaded pool surround ever does, and you have the single hardest job a cool deck coating is asked to do anywhere on the property.

Why the prep changes on a driveway
Contamination has to come out of the concrete before anything new goes on top of it. Oil and fuel staining sits down in the pores of a driveway slab in a way it never does on a pool surround, and if it stays there, the new coating will not bond to it, it will bond to the contamination and fail early. That means more time cleaning and profiling a driveway before a drop of coating is sprayed than we spend on almost any other job.
Joint layout matters more here too, because a driveway is a bigger slab carrying a bigger load, and the control joints have to be placed and cut back in to match where the concrete actually wants to move under a car's weight, not just where the old joints happened to sit. The edges, where the driveway meets the garage apron or the street, take the abuse first and get the closest attention during prep.

Why the heat reduction still matters here
People ask us for cool deck around a pool because bare feet cannot take bare Phoenix concrete in July. A driveway does not get walked barefoot as often, but it is the surface radiating heat straight at the garage and the front of the house all afternoon, and it is exactly what bare feet cross getting from the car to the front door on a hot Queen Creek evening. A cooler-running driveway is a smaller daily discomfort fixed, not a headline feature, and it is one more reason a resurfaced driveway earns its keep the same way a resurfaced pool deck or entryway does.
