What we actually do

It is a resurfacing, not a repainting.

A cool deck coating is a cementitious layer that bonds into the surface of the slab and builds a texture of its own. Paint sits on top and comes off. One of our customers put it better than we can: this is a complete and thorough resurfacing, not a new looking surface.

Where the coating goes

Six kinds of deck, one finish.

Most of what we lay is pool deck, residential one week and a hundred unit apartment community the next. The material is the same in both. What changes is the prep, the schedule and how much of it there is.

Residential

Swimming pool decks

The deck is the part of the pool you actually stand on, and in a Phoenix July that matters more than anything else about it. We resurface tired decks and coat new ones in a slip resistant cool deck finish, with the coping edge and the control joints cut in straight.

Residential

Patios and covered decks

The same coating runs from the pool surround under a patio cover without a seam or a color break. One of our customers had the bare cement under their patio cover done to match the pool surround, and said it was the change that made the difference.

HOA and apartment community decks

Multifamily decks take traffic no residential deck ever sees, and they have to be handed back on schedule. We run cool deck repairs, full resurfacing and new installations for HOAs, condominiums and apartment communities across the Valley, with a partner program for property managers.

The same coating goes down on driveways and sidewalks, where it does the same job of pulling the surface temperature down and adding grip. See all six services.

What one to two days actually looks like.

  1. 01

    We come and measure it

Estimates are free and they happen on site, not over the phone. We look at what the slab is doing underneath the surface, because that is what decides whether you need a coating or a repair first.

  2. 02

    The old surface comes off

Prep is the part that decides whether a deck lasts. The existing surface is cleaned and profiled, cracks are dealt with, and the pool and planting are covered before anything is sprayed.

  3. 03

    The coating goes down

Cool deck is laid to an even thickness, textured for grip, and the control joints are cut back in so the slab can move where it is meant to. Color is chosen before we start, not matched afterward.

  4. 04

You get it back in a day or two

Most jobs finish inside one to two days. We clean up behind us, and the work carries a two year warranty. Run the filter and check your water before the first swim.

A job with a name on it

One deck, one day, one crew.

Lou watched a full pool surround go down in a single day, laid by a crew led by Javier. Justin picked the Pacific Stone color after taking three quotes. Both of them wrote about the same two things afterward: the crew showed up when they said, and the clean up was as careful as the work.

A truly outstanding experience with AZ Deck. Vaughn and his team made our pool deck like brand new! This is not just a repainting as other companies may offer; this is a complete and thorough resurfacing... Don't bother with any other c...

The AZ Deck crew (led by Javier) put new cool deck around our pool today. Absolutely awesome job. They were efficient, conscientious, completed the job in one day, and the finished product is beautiful. Their attention to detail, even i...

AZ Deck did an amazing job on resurfacing my pool deck. We went with Pacific Stone color and couldn't be happier. I received 3 different quotes. AZ deck was very competitive on pricing, crew was on time, and did a fantastic job.

Before you call

The questions we get asked on every estimate.

Most jobs are finished in one to two days. A standard residential pool deck is usually a single day for the crew, with the surface left to cure before anyone walks on it. Larger commercial and HOA decks run longer, and we tell you the honest number when we measure rather than after we start.

No. Every job is done by our own crew. That is deliberate: it is the only way we can stand behind the two year warranty on the work, and it is why the same faces come back if anything needs attention later.

Yes, we carry a two year warranty on all work. We are also a licensed Arizona contractor, AZROC #288172, and we are bonded and insured.

Usually, yes. Hairline cracking from heat and soil movement is normal on a Valley slab and gets addressed as part of the prep. What matters is finding out whether a crack is cosmetic or whether the slab is moving underneath it, because a coating laid over an active crack will telegraph through. We look at that before we quote, not after.

There is dust and overspray in any resurfacing job, so the pool gets covered and protected while we are on site. Once we are finished, run the filter and check the water chemistry before you swim. If anything has drifted, it is straightforward to bring back.

Most of what marks a cool deck is surface dirt, leaf tannin or sunscreen, and it comes up with a mild cleaner and a stiff brush. Avoid acid washes and pressure washing at close range, both of which can take the texture off the surface faster than they take the stain off.

Working on a community deck rather than a backyard? The commercial and HOA page covers scheduling, the partner program and how we phase a big deck.
